Welcome Back to League Cricket at The Strand

Welcome Back to League Cricket at The Strand

Dear Member,

You must all feel, as I do, how strange & frustrating it has been for everyone over the past few months. We have had our wonderful ground & facilities lying idle & have seen some fabulous cricket weather yet here we are in mid-July & not one competitive game has been played.

Well, all that is about to change as we will be hosting Carrington Cavaliers in a 1st XI 40-over Notts Premier League match starting at 12.30pm this Saturday. New rules will see a straight Win/Lose format, no draws so we hope to see some great cricket. The rest of the weekend fixtures look like this :-

SNCL – Sat 2nd XI Away at Wollaton
SNCL – Sat 3rd XI Away at Gedling
SNCL – Sat 4th XI Away at Ellerslie
Friendly – Sun1st XI Away at Colston Bassett
Friendly – Sun 2nd XI Home to Wanderers

Due to Covid-19 restrictions we will be unable to use our Home grounds for the Sat 3rd XI & Sat 4th XI at Nottingham University & Chetwynd Barracks respectively. All Home matches listed for the rest of the season will be at The Strand. This has meant a lot of re-organisation for Martin Firbank, Dave Williams & the cricket team as they have also been liasing with other clubs so that some league games can be played on a Sunday & some matches originally listed as Home games have been moved to the opposition’s ground. When the rest of the season’s fixtures are confirmed we will publish them on the website. Thanks to everyone’s efforts our players will be given the maximum opportunity possible to play cricket this year.

Covid-19 has had a tremendous impact on the club as well as to all our members & extended families & friends wherever they may be. My personal thanks go to those of our club members who have invested a staggering amount of time & effort to get us to where we are today with the bar, pavilion & ground all prepared to Government & ECB Guidelines.

My thanks also go to all those members that have supported the club with donations & subscriptions following our appeal earlier in the season which have all been gratefully received & especially to Robert Westerman & his company for their continued support in agreeing to be our main sponsor once again.

You will be receiving, in the next day or two, communication from the Hon Sec about our Covid-19 preparations & where you can find all relevant information on our website :- attenborough-cc.org

The weather looks good for the weekend so please come to watch the cricket & support our teams, enjoy the cricket, have a drink at the bar but please, above all, observe the government guidelines on social distancing on the ground & when using the facilities. To that end there are a lot of new signs, a one way system in the pavilion, QR codes to scan to comply with Track & Trace & for guests to be signed-in by members.

Everything is different at the moment so please, please be patient & considerate & help us to provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

Best Wishes

Paul Shoemaker

Chairman – Attenborough Cricket Club
