Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 8

Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 8

Hi all,

I hope that everyone is continuing to enjoy the daily challenges being set by the coaches. Tomorrows challenge is the first bowling activity and is very similar to the game we have played during the winter training at Bramcote.

The Coaches Challenge for Wednesday is as follows :-

Challenge 8 – Target Bowling

Equipment 1 tennis/soft ball, a wicket – target ( in the demo they have used some tape on a bin to create the wicket you could use chalk / alternatives create the wicket against a wall / fence/gate ). For the 2nd challenge you will also need a target area on the ground ( in the demo they use a hula hoop, you could use some cones /string / paper to create a target area on the ground ) and a stop watch

Activity (click here for the demo):

i ) The objective of this challenge is to bowl the ball and hit the target which should be 12-15m away ( don’t worry if the distance is shorter ). The more accurate the bowling, the more points you will get.
ii) The challenge is split into 2 – Firstly, bowl 12 balls and count how many points you collect ( 1 point if you hit the bin or is a near miss if you are using a fence or wall and 3 points if you hit the wicket ) !
For the second challenge, you will need to put the hoola hoop / or target on the ground around 2m in front of the wicket. This time you will also gets points if you hit the target area on the ground and also points if you still hit the wicket, see how many points you get in 2 minutes using the stopwatch. ( for the 2nd challenge its 3 points if you hit the landing area, 5 points if you hit the wicket and 1 point for a near miss – if you hit the landing area and a target combine the scores ) !

You can have as many goes as you like at the challenge.

Coaches Tips:

a) Dont forget the star shape with your body and keep your bowling arm straight through to delivery.
b) Keep your head still throughout and focus your eyes on the landing area
c) You can do this as a standing start and dont forget to follow through with your bowling action to gather momentum. Less time for a run up equals more time to bowl and will definitely help with the second challenge as it is timed.

Please email me by 7pm on Wednesday 6 May with the following: –

a) Child’s name,
b) The number of points in the first challenge from 12 balls
c) The number of points from the second challenge in 2 minutes.

Bonus points will be awarded to the individual(s) with the best scores for each challenge.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Many thanks and stay safe.
