Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 18 – ‘beat the coach catching’

hi all,

For those who beat the coach with the batting challenge on Tuesday well done ! Wednesday’s challenge is a real tough one but you can simplify it if you are struggling. The next challenge to beat the coach is a timed catching challenge similar to challenge 1. You simply have to make 10 catches with 2 hands, 10 catches right hand & 10 catches left hand against the clock. You need to be standing on a cushion or piece of wood like in the demo and for the one handed catches you need to standing on one leg. Again the coaches only had one attempt at this challenge, you can have as many goes as you like. If you do struggle with this challenge after a few goes you can simplify it by either not standing on one leg or taking all the catches 2 handed or both. You still have a chance to beat the coach in taking 30 catches in a faster time ( which is still pretty cool ) !

Challenge 18 – Speed Catching

Equipment: 1 tennis ball, a stopwatch, a cushion & a wall

Activity (click here for the demo):

The time taken in the video is 28.3 seconds and our coaches were all between 31.5 secs & 31.9 secs. So a time of less than 31.5 secs beats the coaches

Coaches Tips :

1. Throw the ball underarm at about waist high against the wall, so you can make the catch with your fingers pointing down
2. When you have a go with the right hand only, make sure the ball is thrown so it rebounds off the wall on the right side of your body to make the catch easier. The opposite applies for the left hand catches.
