Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 21

Hi all,

I hope that everyone is continuing to have fun attempting the daily challenges being set by the coaches, after last weeks beat the coaches we are back with coaches challenges this week, this one set by Arjun. The Coaches Challenge for Tuesday is as follows :-

Challenge 21 – Yorker ball practice

Equipment: 1 tennis/soft ball, a target and a pair of shoes.

Activity (click here for the demo):

i ) This challenge is all about perfecting your yorker ball. As shown in the demo above, set up a target around 15 metres away and place a pair of shoes in front of the target as if they were the batsman’s feet. Your aim is simply to bowl the ball and hit the shoes! The yorker ball is one of my favourite deliveries even though I bowl spin! I like to bowl yorkers especially towards the end of the innings or when new batsmen come in. It is a very effective delivery, trust me!
ii) The challenge is to bowl 10 balls and see how many times you can hit the shoes.

Coaches Tips:

a) Keep your head on the target as long as possible.
b) Drive with the shoulder of your bowling arm in the direction of the bottom of the stumps.
c) Make sure you are balanced at the point of release as this will result in a more accurate delivery.

Please email me by 7pm on Tuesday 26 May with the following: –

a) Child’s name,
b) The number of hits out of 10.

Bonus points will be awarded to the individual(s) for the most hits.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Many thanks and stay safe.
