Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 17 – ‘beat the coach batting’

hi all,

For those who beat the coach with the bowling challenge on Monday well done ! For those who didn’t quite manage it you have a great chance on Tuesday with the batting challenge as its the one you have practiced most during your winter training. The next challenge to beat the coach is a straight drive batting challenge. You have 6 balls ( 1 over ) to hit the ball straight through two targets 1m apart about 10m away. Again the coaches only had one attempt at this challenge, you can have 3 goes to beat the coach ( 3 overs ). You can have as many goes as you like but if you do it after the third attempt you have beat the coach after more practice ( which is still pretty cool ) !

Challenge 17 – Straight drive batting

Equipment: 1 tennis ball, a bat, a tee ( or toilet roll holder ) and 2 cones ( or something similar as a target area to aim between )

Activity as above

Don’t forget you have 6 balls to beat the coaches scores below and to give you more of a chance you can have 3 goes to beat the coach. You can have as many goes after that to try and beat the coach after more practice.

The worst coach score for this challenge is 2 out of 6 so you need to get 3 balls through the target area to beat the coach

However, the best coach score for this challenge is 3 out of 6 so you need to get 4 through the target area to beat all the coaches !

Coaches Tips:

a) Think about the front foot drive you practiced during the winter training by hitting the ball off the tee and aiming for the cones. This is exactly the same, backswing the bat and step forward ( front shoulder dips ) try and get your foot as close to the ball with your toes pointing towards the target, keeping your eye on the ball throughout. Front knee bend and a comfortable stride making a solid base. Downswing the bat with the bat accelerates to contact and the bat swings through the line to completion, balance maintained throughout.
b) If you are attempting this challenge on grass make sure you hit the ball hard enough so it goes through the target area.
