Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 14

Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 14

Hi all,

I hope that everyone is continuing to have fun attempting the daily challenges being set by the coaches. The Coaches Challenge for Thursday is as follows :-

Challenge 14 – One handed interception

Equipment: 1 tennis ball and a target. A stump is used in the demo below but anything similar will be fine. Also, you will need a family member to help as they will roll the ball along the ground for you to intercept.

Activity (click here for the demo):

i ) This challenge will test your ground fielding technique, balance and accuracy. Set the target 10 metres away from you and your helper will roll the ball towards you from behind the target. You will aim to intercept the ball in between your starting point and the target then underarm throw/roll the ball with the aim of hitting the target. This challenge is shown 10 seconds in the demo above.
ii) The challenge is to receive 15 feeds from your helper and see how many times you can hit the target.

Coaches Tips:

a) Watch the ball closely and align your body with the ball. If you are right handed then pick the ball up outside of your right foot. If you are left handed then vice versa.
b) Judge the pace of the ball coming to you but aim to attack it by running in and then release once collected without thinking about it too much. This technique will become natural to you. Helpers, please do not roll the ball too quickly or too slow!
c) Once you have the ball in your hand then aim for the base of the target.

Please email me by 7pm on Thursday 14 May with the following: –

a) Child’s name,
b) The number of hits out of 15.

Bonus points will be awarded to the individual(s) for the most hits.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Many thanks and stay safe.
