Cricket at Home – Coaches Challenge 22

Hi all,

I hope that everyone is continuing to have fun attempting the daily challenges being set by the coaches. The Coaches Challenge for Weds is as follows :-

Challenge 22 – Wicket Keeping

Equipment: 1 tennis/soft ball, a stump ( or stick ) and a dustbin

Activity (click here for the demo):

i ) This challenge is the first one specifically aimed at wicketkeeping. This will need a family member to feed the ball. As shown in the demo above, you will actually need to throw underarm 10 balls to the left of the dustbin ( off side takes to a right hand batsman ) bouncing just before the wicketkeeper followed by 10 to the right of the dustbin ( legside takes for a right hand batsman ) and finally 10 random either side of the dustbin. The wicket keeper simply needs to catch as many of the balls as possible.
ii) Its really important that the wicketkeeping starts on the off side for all the balls thrown even when they know the 10 balls are going to be leg side takes, they only move across when the ball is released ( they are the most difficult to catch as the wicketkeeper is unsighted for a split second as they move behind the dustbin ). The dustbin represents a batsman in a match !

Coaches Tips:

a) Head in the optimal position for the wicketkeeper to see the ball
b) Strong body posture to enable quick and decisive movements.
c) Establish a strong and balanced position to receive the ball
d) Finally present a comfortable and maximal catching area with head and hands in line with the ball

Please email me by 7pm on Weds 27 May with the following: –

a) Child’s name,
b) The number of catches out of 30.

Bonus points will be awarded to the individual(s) for the most catches.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Many thanks and stay safe.
