In a game reduced to 38 overs due to rain the Squirrels were battered to an 8 wicket defeat at the New Gatehouse Ground.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Buffy Landa (22) and Paldip Sidhu (46) put on 65 for the first wicket before runs seemed to become harder to come by despite decent contributions from Savin Perera (48) and Steve Allcoat (23). It was left to the returning Ben Shaw to boost the run rate to just over 5 with an excellent cameo 25 runs from 17 balls leaving a final score of 198 for 6 wickets.
Hucknall's reply started quite brutally as Joshua Downie raced to 76 and the game then became a simple procession to victory for the home side The target was reached with almost 4 overs to spare and 8 wickets in hand.
Cricket is often a game of small margins - if Downie's first ball edge had been 1mm thinner, it may have been gloved by the keeper rather than disappearing to the boundary a few feet above his head, and the game may then have taken an entirely different course. However, whilst the good folk of Attenborough enjoyed their fete, the cricketers just have to accept theirs and move on.
The Squirrels next game sees them take on relegation threatened Farnsfield at The Strand.
