Farnsfield decided to bat first on a day interspersed with a few light showers and multiple sets of ringing from the church. Accordingly they set off like the clappers before a couple of wickets for Ben Kitt brought the rate down somewhat. Batting looked difficult with many plays and misses as the ball moved around off the wicket. After some improvement in the run rate the introduction of Arjun Sandhu, playing his first game for the 1s in year, and Angad Singh brought the rate back under 4 at a time when Farnsfield would have been looking to push on rapidly. Arjun finished with 3 for 25 from 7 overs as the innings closed at 211 for 7.
The Squirrels response started badly with a wicket going down in the second over. However, Savin Perara (51) and a resolute Ben Kitt (38) put on 74 for the second wicket and we were well in the game at 99 for 2 with less than half of the overs gone. From there on in it became a bit of a procession as wickets fell rapidly to the Farnsfield spinners. Only an excellent unbeaten 39 from 44 balls from Ben Shaw provided some brightness as the innings disintegrated to 148 all out.
We now sit just one place above the relegation zone. I just hope that by questioning why there was so much bellringing, I'm not been given the stock answer either for myself or for the Club's future Premier League status.
