Nick’s Sunday 2nd XI started their season with a home fixture against Sutton on the Hill. It was mutually decided that the Squirrels would bat first with the away side being a man down and understrength. However, Lakshay offered to field for the away side which was a big help. David ‘Bomber’ Harris and Josh Wilson opened the batting and put on 132 for the first wicket as Josh was first to depart scoring a well controlled 50 (5 fours). Bomber stayed around and continued to pick off the bowling scoring a century in the process (111, 12 fours) even though at the time when he was dismissed, everyone thought he was on 99! The Squirrels ended up on 191 for 3 from their 40 overs with Morgan who was not out at the end (19*, 2 fours) looking fluent and if given more time would have scored big too.
The away side came out to bat after tea and struggled as wickets fell at regular intervals. Sutton on the Hill were bowled out for 95 inside 34 overs. Thomas Benton was pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets for 21 and despite not taking a wicket, he was well backed up by Zain Ali (5-1-8-0) who beat the bat on numerous occasions.
