Earlier this year members of our Committee met with senior personnel from Chilwell Barracks for exploratory discussions around Attenborough CC playing 3rd & 4th team cricket on the Barracks sports pitches and to have use of their existing sports pavilion.
I am pleased to report that following these meetings we have agreement to play cricket there from next season onwards.
The project required our Grounds team to initially install the cricket square such that it is fit for use for the 2019 season. This has now happened and we await the warm, damp autumn weather to do its job germinating the seed and in getting the square established.
We will also have use of the sports pavilion near to the cricket pitch, which has good changing facilities, toilets, hot showers and an area for delivering teas.
The plan for the 2019 season is for the 4th team to have first use of these facilities, with the 3rd team continuing to play at Nottingham University for one more season.
By the 2020 season the cricket facilities at the Barracks will be used by both the 3rd & 4th teams for their home matches.
The planned MOD sell off/developments at the Barracks in the coming years should not impact on these plans as we understand that the green space/sports pitches are to be 'ring fenced' for future community use.
The is another exciting development for Attenborough CC. An affordable, sustainable, quality, local cricket pitch and pavilion that will be enjoyed by club members, friends and families for years to come.
Planning for up coming seasons continues even when we're not playing cricket!
A further update will be provided at our AGM on Friday 23rd November at our pavilion.
