Weekend report - 27th August

The 1sts were home to NCCC Academy in a must win game! The Academy won the toss and elected to bat. They were bowled out for 219 just inside 50 overs led by some superb bowling from Dominic Harvey, 6 for 45. The 1sts managed to chase down the score at a quick rate with Tom Moores scoring a sensational 107* off 66 balls which included 13 fours and 5 sixes. Tom was well supported by MotM Dominic who scored 38 in a crucial partnership, full scorecard here. The 1sts gained the full 20 points and are now 5 points clear from the relegation spot, view league table here. Away to Hucknall next week in another massive game!

The 2nds were away to Plumtree in another must win game. The 2nds won the toss and elected to bat first. Things weren't going to plan at all as the 2nds were 5 wickets down for only 24 runs! Seasoned veterans Richard Henson and Ben Sheppard entered the crease and changed the game. Ben was the aggressor with 69 off 71 balls including 6 fours and 4 sixes and Richard played a beautiful knock. Richard top scored and ended up on 73 as he was rewarded for being patient in the early stages of his innings. The partnership totalled to 126 and this was a sublime effort especially with the chips being down. The 2nds finished on 245 from their 50 overs and this was successfully defended! Plumtree ended up on 219 for 9 which was 26 runs short, full scorecard here. 18 out of a possible 20 points were picked up and it is very close at the bottom of the table. The 2nds host Gedling Colliery next weekend in their last league game.

The 3rds were away to Stapleford and were extremely unlucky. Stapleford were restricted to 150 with some brilliant bowling by last week's MotM Sam Henson (3 for 23 from 10 overs) and Josh Noble (3 for 23 from 5 overs). The 3rds lost wickets at regular intervals when attempting to chase their score down. The 3rds were only 10 runs short ending up on 140. Sam showcased his all-round skills again scoring 75 runs at the top of the order. Notable contribution from Finlay Meakin (25) who batted well too, full scorecard here.

The 4ths were home to Newark Ransome & Marles. The 4ths batted first and achieved a score of 132 as Chris Tolley top scored with 39. The score was chased down with only 2 wickets being lost, full scorecard here. A great experience for a lot of the youngsters who played a top side that have managed to achieve league promotion. Great results for the 1sts and 2nds. Good luck to the all sides for next Saturday.

Finally, the Sunday 1sts were away to Calverton. Firby's Warriors won by 7 wickets with a team who's average age was only 18! Calverton were 130 for 2 after 22 overs but ended up being bowled out for 185 due to the introduction of the young spin twins! Josh Wilson (4 wickets for only 9 runs) and Seth Puddy (3 for 31) combined to take 7 wickets. The 1sts knocked them off only losing 2 wickets with Pete Bhabra scoring a wonderful 125 at the top of the order. However, MotM Josh scored the winning runs to reach his fifty (51*). Great effort from the team, full scorecard here.
